PA Services

L.A.P.W.D as a Centre of Independent Living operates a personal assistant service for people with significant physical or sensory disabilities.

Definitions of services available for people with disabilities in Leitrim:

Home Helps

This service provides assistance with household tasks such as cleaning, lighting fires etc. Activities of the homehelps are directed by the home help supervisor who is employed by the HSE NW Region.

Home Care Attendants

Provide assistance with personal care such as getting dressed, washed etc. The activities of home care attendants are directed by the Public Health Nurse or by the family of the person with a disability. The Irish Wheelchair Association have been contracted to provide this service by the HSE NW Region.

Personal Assistants

Provide assistance with both personal care and household tasks, and assist people outside the home environment to continue living within their local community by attending work, college, and social activities. The activities of the personal assistant are directed by the person with the disability themselves, who is termed 'a Leader'. The Centres for Independent Living in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have been contracted by the HSE NW Region to provide this service
