What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology is any use of technology which helps you perform a
task more easily.
Assistive Technology, or AT as it is called, does this by enhancing a
person's capabilities and independence, making the environment more
accessible for all.
Assistive Technology may be as simple as changing the text sizes on your PC,
or more complex such as screen-reading software which reads text and
websites aloud.
Assistive Technology is not exclusively for disabled people - everyone can
benefit from AT. For example, office workers can use wrist rests to reduce
the risk of RSI or adjust their computer settings to reduce eye strain.
Assistive Technology helps anyone perform a task more comfortably and
productively.
