Official Launch of L.A.P.W.D. by Mr. Mervyn Taylor,T.D., Minister for Equality & Law Reform 1992 - 1997.

The Association was launched on the 8th May 1997 in The Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon County Leitrim

This was one year to the day and date after the the first open public meeting to initiate a county based support group to include all people with all types of disabilities. It was held on May 8th 1996 in the old V.E.C. building. The timing of this effort to strengthen the Disability Movement in Leitrim aptly coincided with the establishment of The Irish Council of People with Disabilities which resulted from the work of the Status of People with Disabilities which was commissioned by Mr. Taylor during his Ministry.

The launch was held during the lead up to the General Election of 1997 and every effort was made ro use it to the best advantage. on behalf of people with disabilities.
