National Review of Audiology Services
The HSE is carrying out a National Review of Audiology Services. The Review will examine the services currently being provided to Children and Adults nationwide and will inform a national plan for the service. The overall objective will be to bring forward proposals to develop an integrated standardised service which will result in significant improvement for patients, the services and staff working in the service.
As part of the exercise, the HSE is engaging in a public consultation
process.
The approach, currently underway, involves the convening of parent/user focus
groups in Cork, Galway and Dublin. If you would like to submit further
commentary under this process please e-mail your submission to
primarycare@hse.ie or, forward by post
to the National Primary Care Office, Merlin Park Regional Hospital Galway by
the 19th of March 2010 where the expert group will review and consider all
submissions received.
Terms of Reference
Background:
The National Director of Primary Community and Continuing Care has requested
that a National Review of Audiology Services be carried out. A key focus of
this review will be the integration between PCCC, Acute Services and external
agencies involved in the provision of audiology services. The Review Group
will, therefore, be comprised of both Community and Hospital health care
providers for adults and children.
Please Note the deadline. This is an important review of audiology services
country for future services.

The group is open to absolutely everyone - beginner or international best
seller, young or not so young, with or without disabilities. Facilitated by

President opens new LAPWD centre.
The Leitrim Association of People with Disabilities were honoured by the visit of the President of Ireland Mary McAleese and her husband Dr.Martin McAleese, to open the new purpose built and fully accessible centre in Mohill on Friday May 9th last. Photos from the event can now be viewed here >>
Leitrim County Council Disability Implementation Plan.
Mr. Tom Murphy, Chairperson of LAPWD attended a meeting the consultative group of Leitrim Co. Council in Áras an Chondae re the initial draft of the Disability Implementation Plan and its effects on people with disability within the county. The chairperson of LAPWD and Manager, Rosaleen Kielty made a joint presentation with IWA representatives Jim Raftery and Daniella Hock on issues Social Inclusion to the committee on Social Inclusion of the Leitrim County Development Board on Nov 6th 07.
Attention People with Visual Impairment.
Leitrim County Libraries have now available in their Branch libraries
special equipment to assist people with visual impairments.
The new facilities which have been brought into Leitrim County Library are
specifically designed to assist people when reading or when using the
computer. The facilities, which include equipment and software, are currently
available in five of Leitrim County Library's branch libraries, in
Carrick-on-Shannon, Manorhamilton, Ballinamore, Drumshanbo and Mohill will be
of assistance to people of every age and of any level of eyesight. The
equipment is available for public use, free of charge, at any of the
aforementioned libraries.

Free Travel Passes for the Disabled.
The minister for Social Affairs, Mr. Seamus Brennan has announced that all restrictions on travel on public transport services at
morning and evening peak-times for holders of Free Travel Passes which have been in existence for almost 40 years have been lifted.
This will allow older people and especially people with Disabilities travel at all times convenient for them.
Transport Costs-car adaptations..
You may be entitled to a grant to help to buy or adapt a car for a person with a severe disability who needs it for work.
In exceptional circumstances, it may be payable if you live in a remote area and your child is unable to use public transport
because
of the disability. To get further information on the criteria for the supports above contact the Health Service Executive.
WILL/WAVES Group
In co-operation with Leitrim County Development board, the WILL/WAVES
Partnership has been established. This is a group of women with Disabilities
the (WILL) group in Leitrim and the (WAVES) group from Fermanagh who are
currently meeting regularly and working together on a project. The details of
this project will be publicised further at a later date
Membership of LAPWD
Membership is open to all people with a physical and sensory disability,
their families and carers. People representing organisations, associations
etc are also welcome to attend the AGM. All paid up members receive written
notification of the AGM. A notice is also posted in the Leitrim Observer. This is your opportunity to express
your views, meet the staff and management.
LAPWD is very anxious to increase their membership numbers and application
forms are available completed membership forms and €5 fee should be returned
to the office.
