The Leitrim Association of People with Disabilities were honoured by the visit of the President of Ireland Mary McAleese and her husband Dr.Martin McAleese, to open the new purpose built and fully accessible centre in Mohill on Friday evening last. The President unveiled a plaque on the building and gave an inspirational address to the large crowd in attendance. LAPWD provides a personal assistant service throughout all of county Leitrim from Kin Lough to Carrigallen and into West Cavan. The President in her address spoke of the need for organisations like LAPWD to ensure the rights and needs of people with disabilities are fully met in an equitable way. All of us have an aspiration to stay independent as long as possible and this is the ethos that underpins the values of LAPWD. Representatives of the funding bodies that supported this new centre attended, Mr.Pat Dolan representing HSE, Ms.Catherine Morris from Pobal, Ms.Deirdre Rooney, Co.Leitrim Led Task Force, James Duffy Arigna Leader, Marcus Husky DFI .
